THE CHILDREN OF KINGS. This chapter (now a chapter cluster) should be entitled, "Adventures in Shainsa." A summons by the Lord of Shainsa, a bar fight, a mysterious meeting, an assassination... So far, 2 chapters (Ch. 7 & 8), but may expand into 3. At the moment, things are falling nicely into place, which is good because a virus type life form is flirting with my sinuses. Ch 7 is roughly done, and I'm on p. 16 of Ch. 8; may be able to finish today, and that will be a solid week's work.

Darkover in Germany

Dear Deborah, good to hear that you are making such fine progress with CoK. The German translation of A FLAME IN HALI hit the German bookshelves this week. The German title is DIE FLAMME VON HALI. And again as with the first two books they kept the original cover art and published it in a nice trade paperback edition.

The fron matter of the book also included the notice that more books would be forthcoming. I hope that means that Random House Germany has also bought the CoK trilogy?

Best,
Olaf

Olaf, nice to see your phosphors here. As yet, the next 3 Darkover books have not sold in Germany; my agent needs a finished manuscript to proceed with that. I have no doubt it will go through, despite the long lag time.

Sometimes, I feel as if I'm living in several time zones at once --the last book to come out, the one I'm revising, the one I'm writing that won't come out for another year and a half at least. And if a reader asks about one of my Deborah Wheeler novels -- as sometimes happens -- that's major whiplash as they were written in the late 1980s/early 1990s.

Dear Deborah,
well, I will read ALTON GIFT in English anyway and will not wait for any German translation. But Darkover is still VERY popular in Germany and there are still a lot of fans who do not read English fluently enough.

By the way, I hope your agent is also offering THE SEVEN PETALED SHIELD in Germany? I am also very much looking forward to that!

Olaf

Olaf, it's way too soon to talk foreign sales for SHIELD, but my agent (who was also Marion's agent) has an aggressive foreign-sales person, so I think it's very likely.

Hmmm....of course. A little early.

Do you have a tentative US pub date for SHIELD? I hope that Daw will do these in Hardcover.
