Done!
Yesterday I worked, so it's taken awhile to post this...
Monday I finished the rough draft of THE SEVEN-PETALED SHIELD. Immediately, my monkey-mind wants to add, "But the ending's all wrong and the last third needs serious renovation..." but that's besides the point. I typed "###" -- on page 652!
How do I feel about it? Not at all sure. I mean, there are parts I love and parts that in blurred hindsight just don't come together. This is absolutely normal for this stage. It's a b-i-g canvas and I still have to do a bunch of bringing-culture-to-life. But I am seriously in love with a number of characters -- all 3 POV characters plus a couple of others. Loose ends by the dozen, also wobbly motivation and generic place holders.
So I am feeling both elated and critical. Not sure if I'll noodle around with it today or simply set it aside, work on Darkover for a bit, and then take a fresh look. Oh, why do I always forget? Take a few days to relax and play?
