Despite my best intentions, not much got written yesterday. Actually, nothing got written. I did do piano practice, walk, and laundry. The metro is on strike, so I drove Rose to Cabrillo College (45 mins each way) and then picked her up (ditto), took her to therapy. Usually, I sit in the waiting room with my laptop and write, but we had given a ride to her friend, who had just lost her father to cancer and badly needed to talk. So I sat and listened and made accepting motherly sounds from time to time. It was the right thing to do.

One page of SHIELD done to day ... so far. Readjust goals for today.

Well, as you know, then you did the right thing. I'm glad you were able to give that poor young person a listening ear.

Yes, it very much felt that way. At first, she kept saying, "Don't let me keep you from your writing," when every voice and body cue said how hungry she was to be heard and accepted. Sounded like she and her mother have quite different and occasionally conflicting ways of dealing with grief. At 19, most kids are needing to push away from parents anyway. I've often wondered if it wouldn't be better just to foster them out when they hit adolescence -- I'll swap mine, who never listen to me, for yours, who do

4:30 pm, chapter is done. Rather a mess, flopping around all over the place, but at least I have something to work on now.

Walked into town (3 miles, 1 hour) and dropped off mail and Post Awful. Finished vacuuming, washed kitchen floor.

Off to my targeted 5 pages of COK. Go, me!
