The family that peels guavas together...
Dec. 25th, 2007 06:55 pmAmongst all the holiday rushings and personal upsets, Dave and I have created a new tradition. He has hooked up with an orchardist anxious to find homes for many many fruits, including bucketfuls of pineapple guavas. I have ordered Season 1 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (which I missed on TV because, for reasons too numerous to mention that all boil down to, I couldn't watch anything on TV then) on Netflix. So, we plump down on the sofa, laps covered with beach towels, cutting boards, and paring knives, the coffee table strewn with bowls for peels and fruit, buckets at our feet. And chop pineapple guavas while watching Buffy. Does this strike anyone else as amusing?
Then he takes some and makes wine or melomel (flavored mead) and I take some and make jam. First batch was yummy but just-guava. I got carried away with the second batch and added lemon and ginger. Oh, my. Shall I call it Angel's Flight?
