Work recuperation

I filled in at my old day job for 3 days (reception/scheduling and occasional medical assisting for a cardiologist). I had agreed to be back-up for sickness/absence/whatever, and in many ways it's good. I like keeping in touch with this group of people, I certainly feel valued and appreciated, and it's a way to help people. But boy, am I not used to office work. At home, I may get much more accomplished, but I'm flowing with what's up -- moving around (housework, exercise, pottering, garden) when my body needs to move, curling up with my laptop in a comfy chair or at my desk with the door closed and music carrying me along, napping when my body says to rest. I think the resulting increase in productivity is because I'm working on my own rhythm, with my body and the day, instead of imposing an artificial order.

To make matters worse, the receptionist station is utterly unergonomic for me. When I did it full time, I made a few modifications, and mostly took every opportunity to stand up and stretch. Now, grrr. The last one (not the one I just trained in a couple of months ago) broke the chair so it wiggles, the person who owned the foot rest took it back... I'm getting a massage in about an hour to take the results out of my back.

I realize again (and this is one reason I gave up working once a wee) that it takes me a solid day to get back on my rhythm. Yesterday, my "recovery" day, was spent in laundry, tidying kitchen, running errands, and taking my inner child to see The Golden Compass (loved it, loved the spunky girl hero), Today, cleaning off the mess on my desk, dealing with financial stuff... now lunch and massage, then Costco. Then concert at the high school in which our Thai student is performing. Try to fit in writing and piano. Hope for tomorrow???

Yep yep yep. My home office chair isn't too bad, but since my computer is a laptop, I can work in a variety of locations. Including, when the weather is nice, on the back porch overlooking the vineyard, with the redwood-forested Bonny Doon Massif rising behind it.
