TDay redux
Nov. 23rd, 2007 09:14 pmThe obligatory what-I-cooked-for-Thanksgiving. Being more interesting than in years previous, given the dual challenges of vegetarian and gluten-free. So we had: homegrown buttercup squash stuffed with wild rice-brown rice-mushroom pilaf; a dubiously edible "fake turkey" roast (Quorn, this fungus stuff that tastes vaguely poultry like); steamed broccoli; Rose's wonderful broccoli slaw with raisins; fresh cranberry-orange-apple relish; pumpkin pie with brown rice flour crust and whipped cream. The latter was eaten while watching The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T, which has got to be one of the strangest movies of all time. It was the demented brainchild of Dr. Seuss, came out in 1953 or so... just .... if you haven't seen it... well, it was one of the ways Dave and I suspected we were kindred spirits; we were each the only other person we knew who had seen it. I as a child (nightmare time) and he as an adult (omigod time).
Tonight, corn chowder and fresh corn muffins with homemade jam or local friend-raised honey. Tomorrow, exercise.
