Much to my delight, the draft of the next Darkover novel has taken off. My goal was to spend my beach week just hammering out an outline. I now have said outline, and almost 5 chapters. Darned thing seems to be writing itself... and the last half of Chapter 5 will be from Marion's ms.

At the same time, got a pleading call from the office mgr at my old job. They're in between scheduler/receptionists, so could I please help them until they hire someone else? I said yes, fingers crossed it will only be for a short while. Surprisingly, I'm not awfully worried about losing momentum on the Darkover book. I think it's achieved steamroller status and heaven help anything that gets in its way.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Hopefully it isn't so blazing hot in your neck of the woods. I'm ready for fall already. :)

We've had a week of triple-digit temps, plus mandatory water conservation. Garden suffers, and we may lose a significant portion of some crops. However, house is well insulated, so we are comfortable-ish.

I'm waiting on approval for the title of the Darkover book. I have proposed IN THE SHADOW OF THE KING, combining the tentative THE RELUCTANT KING and THE SHADOW KING. The former was to be basically a rewrite of WORLD WRECKERS, and I don't think anyone but Marion is entitled to do that. I think IN THE SHADOW ... offers more interest than just THE SHADOW KING. What do you think?

We've been triple digit too and I'm just not built for it. I'm watering my plants like mad and hoping they won't die completely. I am spending way too much time in the AC of my bedroom which is a bit slug inducing.

I like "In the Shadow" more than the other although I think they potentially suggest very different stories.
