Page proofs for THE ALTON GIFT arrived Thursday and I've been busily working my way through. The way I learned to do this is to go forward, then backward, then forward again. I may not have time for the third pass, since they're due back in 2 weeks. Fortunately, the book was typeset from my file, and there are very few typos -- some grammatical and formatting stuff, and the usual, "I said WHAT?" moments.

The pub date is June 2007. I haven't seen the new cover yet, but it does exist, so do not look for the one that's up on amazon.com and other places.

And then, there are moments that seem like bragging, except they are more awe than pride, when I read a line and feel moved. Or elated. Or just, wow. Not many, but they are there.

Oh me, too, or does that sound too boastful? Nope. It's a cool story, full of the spiritual moments I love, and I worked a long time at it.

I remember Kris Rusch lamenting once that she was writing lots of books, but because of one publishing snafu or another, there were huge gaps when nothing came out. I feel a bit like that.
