Thanks for linking that. Really well done - although it kind of depressed me.

I swing between being depressed/anguished and enraged about the unfolding tragedy in New Orleans. The criminal incompetence, not to mention greed of the Bush administration is way over the "obscene" line for me.

I have been praying for a way through that outrage, and so far all I have is a small amount of willingness to walk through it. It's not good for me to spend too much time vilifying other human beings (no matter how richly they have deserved it by their own actions). I fear that we will still be struggling with the damage long after New Orleans is rebuilt.

Yes, yes, and yes. All familiar emotions for me as well right now.

I've decided that the best way for me to cope is to try to do something (in addition to donating cash) - I'm going to sign my sons and I up for a Red Cross CPR/First Aid course, and if the opportunity arise I will take the Disaster Response Course as well. I'm urging my sons to get involved in helping others as well - there are certain clubs they can be involved in at school. We'll see what they do.

The damage seems to me most of all to be a betrayal of the basic assumption that government is there to work for the public good, when it is so obvious that this administration are there as looters, who truly do not care about the death and devastation inflicted on people who are not 'their little group'.

There are several 100s of families who have been sent to Phoenix's Veterans Memorial Coliseum. I'm trying to wrap my brain around going down there next week (I'm slammed with work and school until Tuesday) and see what I can offer as a volunteer which I hear they need.

I couldn't have said it better. I just hope that we (collective) can learn from this, and expect better from our administations (damn'em), planners, and all who have contributed to the catastrophe directly or indirectly.
