New Year's resolutions

deborahjrossI gave these up a long time ago, in favor of setting goals -- for the next year, 5 years, 10 years, lifetime. It's fascinating to look back on what I thought was important a decade or two ago, what I have achieved, what no longer applies, what still matters.
From 1986: (comments in bold)
1 year: a second child Rose!
finish WEIREMASTER this novel was rewritten as NORTHLIGHT, published by DAW in 1995
sell another short story I sold 2 -- "Stormgod" to SWORD & SORCERESS, and "The Wasteland" to RED SUN OF DARKOVER
5 yr goal: sell a novel DAW bought JAYDIUM in 1991
10 yr: established writing career by 1996, I had 2 novels in print, and several dozen short stories
vacation home ??? -- well, I now live in a redwood forest, does that count?
additional goals from this year included traveling with my mother and mother-in-law, both now deceased. Never did it. Shame.
