Our neighbors were asleep when a tree crashed through their roof in this last storm. Cat is a teller at our local community bank, someone I know on a first name basis. I can only imagine how terrifying it was to awake under the sudden weight of a fallen tree, with broken ribs, and redwood dust filling your mouth when you try to scream.

Today I talked to the folks at the bank where Cat works and the family is receiving emergency temporary shelter through Valley Churches United, which was founded years ago to help families made homeless during another winter storm. But it's only a short-term situation.
