Sunday visit
Oct. 22nd, 2006 07:40 pmDave's mom is doing better, although she remains frail. She was moved to a nursing home, and will be transferred again next week to one closer to home. The shorter drive will lessen the stress on his dad.
We visited her after Quaker meeting today. She was sitting up in a wheelchair at lunch -- apparently, she's on swallow precautions, and that involves being as upright as possible. Also, everything pureed or thickened (no water), so the topic of conversation, as much as she could talk, was complaints about the food. I think it must be difficult to have such things decided for you, and to be confused enough to not remember or understand why. Neither parent has been active in participating in their health care, so such precautions must seem even more incomprehensible. Probably a generational thing.
On a more cheerful note,
aireon and another fellow writer were in the area on book signing tour; I drove up to Half Moon Bay to hang out, chat, and have a late dinner. Make contact with a local bookstore, as well as an injection of writerly enthusiasm.
