I accompanied Dave to upper NY State, the "Thousand Islands" area on the St. Lawrence (Canada on the other shore) for what might have been regarded as a comedy of errors, if our senses of humor had not taken such a battering. The trips there and back were long and exhausting, one catastrophe after another. We left home at 3 am for a 6 am flight, only to find that it had been delayed until 10, which meant we could not make our connection in Chicago, so they sent us through Washington DC. Then the plane couldn't land because of thunderstorms, so we circled until we ran low on fuel and ended up somewhere in Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, I think), getting more fuel. Which meant we couldn't make our connection to Syracuse, so they put us up at a hotel... only the clerk who told us that didn't document it, so when we got to DC, they said no go, because there was a standby we =could= have made, except no one told us about it. At this point, I'm about to lose it, I'm so tired, but it did get sorted out, and thank goodness we had our luggage with us. Next morning, more of the same, minus thunderstorms and hotel.

Arrived late Sunday, spent Mon-Wed at what was supposed to be a luxury resort. Accommodations only so-so, food unbelievably awful. Grease, salt and starch, in no particular order. Vegetables boiled (in butter) to mush. Sauces drowning everything. A cardiologist could make a fortune, handing out cards as people exit the restaurant. Was a challenge... for one lunch, I noticed a few stray garbanzos in the salad, so asked the cook for a half-cup of them and some fresh fruit. Tuesday night, however, we were on our own, and found a sushi restaurant (struggling to stay in business, even though the fish was fresh, well prepared) so we were saved.

While Dave was in meetings, I wrote, practiced piano (one of the banquet rooms had a nice quarter-grand in a corner), got in a little walking. One nice thing, our room faced the river and I got to watch Canada geese swim by.

Return trip was threatened by many disasters, but nothing too awful. We finally got back home at 3 am Thursday, jet lagged and grubby. Sooo good to be back in the land of fresh vegetables!

So utterly glad that wasn't my trip, which has been well managed so far, even if it has been extended a week.

Glad you made it home safe and sound.
