Hours of Argh!ness later, and a phone call to tech support for the DVD burner -- very helpful, nice American person -- I am ready to give it a rest for the afternoon (and write!) I have gotten to the point of ascertaining that my computer is not recognizing the burner -- or anything else that can connect to its USB port. At least, I think that's the right description. I will ask my resident teenager to look at the situation when she gets home from school today. Strangely, I feel a great sense of relief because I KNOW there's nothing I can do at the moment. (And if this is the problem and it's fixed, everything might actually work the way it's supposed to!)
