Anticipation

I just realized that I can see the newly-installed kestrel box from my office window. It's on a tall pole on the other side of the lilac, which is leafless at the moment but should not obscure the view too badly. The welcome mat is out, the box has been furnished with nice fluffy bedding material (chemical-free, not cedar or pine shavings or anything else smelly) and we are awaiting inhabitants. It might attract a small owl as well. The pole not only raises it to a suitable height, but is not accessible by squirrels. Stay tuned!

I'm still agitating for a bat box, and will have more argumentary armament come mosquito season. I love bats.
