The skunk man has come and gone, leaving us with many interesting details about skunks. Were it not for the smell, they would make welcome guests, as they are effective rodent hunters. Our tactic is "exclusion," that is, placing wire fencing around any place they could possibly get under the house (and garage and sheds). Dave will do the work, first to exclude skunks, then smaller beasties like mice and also bees. Them killer bees are a'comin' and we'd rather they not make nests under our house. Do bees do that? I don't know.

And the smell is almost completely gone. Hooray!

Ah, I know what you mean about bad smells. With all the rain we have been getting the ants have decided to come in where it's dry. Unfortunately, the "in" is in my kitchen. They appear to be creeping in between the sink and the wall. So out came the RAID. Ugh. Luckily it's warm enough to keep the kitchen window open at night. But that stuff just gives me such a headache.

Surely there must be some less-toxic alternatives. I remember beating back mild incursions by washing their trails with a thick solution of baking soda. It neutralizes the formic acid, which is how they follow one another. But as I remember, there are all kinds of other remedies. Noodle around online and see what the cruncy granola woo woo folk recommend.
