There is a reason we call Oka a "German SHEDDING Dog." Twice a year, he "blows" his luxurious undercoat. It is not possible to comb him fast enough to achieve that still-point in which no more fur come off, not even for a nanosecond. When he walks through the house, he leaves clumps of the stuff. I believe it is possible to spin it into yarn, but then I'd never get to do anything else.

I bathed him a couple of days ago, when it was really hot (he thinks water is evil and poisonous, but will tolerate it when the temp is in the triple-digits). He smells good (as in unscented, not foo-foo) and his outer coat is glorious, but I'd forgotten what masses of wet dog fur -- attached to said dog -- can do. (They're dry now, and spread in little lumps all over the back patio.) I also suspect that the shampooing loosened a whole lot more, but that's not entirely bad, as it hastens the end. At least, I THINK there is a finite amount of undercoat . . .

If I had the energy, I'd vacuum twice a day. The manta of the day is, "This too shall pass . . ."
