Sunday exhaustion
Mar. 9th, 2008 09:34 pmSpent this afternoon with Dave (and yesterday and the day before that, by myself) cleaning out his dad's apartment. It's easier emotionally for me, but it's still a lot of physical work. We've taken 3 carloads of stuff to Goodwill, and about 1 home. Actually, we're in good shape. The next project is the tool shed, which Dave will tackle with a male friend for the heavy lifting. Then, arrange for Goodwill to pick up the furniture, arrange for the retirement home to take anything left to the dump, and we're done. Rent is paid until the 22nd, so we're okay. Funeral is Saturday, at sea.
Notes to self:
1. Get rid of stuff as it is not used. Eliminate duplicate everythings. Give cool stuff to kids now so you can watch them enjoy it.
2. Do not leave lidless storage containers filled with folded paper towels strewn about the house.
3. One box of Kleenex per room is quite sufficient. Actually, one box per bathroom is enough.
4. Wash clothing before hanging in closet.
A cool memory. About the time Dave and I married, we faced combining the contents of 2 households. Whose bed? Whose dining room table? etc. We heard through the community of a young couple who had lost everything when their house burned down. They had enough insurance to rebuild, but not replace their belongings. What joy to be able to pass on our furniture, linens, towels, dishes, pots and pans, rugs, to someone who would appreciate them.
