A rapid transition
Oct. 10th, 2006 08:48 pmFor about a year now, I have been saying that if I could not find a way to do my day job (one day a week, medical assisting at the cardiology office where I have worked for 7 years) in a less stressful way, I owed it to myself to leave. I have not been entirely successful, especially on weeks when I am also filling in for other workers (I have enough diverse cross-training so I can do 3 different jobs -- and I end up doing more than one on my normal work day). So, when the office needed to hire a new medical assistant to replace the one who normally works 3 days a week, I found myself wishing they needed my day as well -- and the next day, walked into the office manager's office and told them to offer that person my regular day. I had decided I could not do both, and was more valuable to the office as a back-up. Well... they hired the person the interviewed on Friday and as of Monday, I am FREE!
FREE to write -- but of course, I have to decompress and play a bit first. Last week was brutal and I know from experience it takes me time to settle. So I spent the day with a friend in Palo Alto, running errands, having lunch, talking about dogs and life. Tomorrow is her birthday, and we will take dogs either to the beach or hiking or up the coast and Have Adventures.
Friday is massage day.

Date: 2006-10-11 06:05 pm (UTC)...you should, like, totally use that time to help me and Miss Marcie out. ;) ...have any experience painting? Or want to attempt to move a ladder with me so roofs can be swept? Or help me with fueling and running the generator? Or cleaning the pond? Or transporting in artwork?
(lower priority things)...or maaaaaybe even talking gardeny things? Or organizing the workshop a little? or hanging a few of the pictures once they're brought in? Or helping to plan and do a holiday party? or build a swing?

Date: 2006-10-14 06:17 pm (UTC)See, cleaning the pond? It's just hosing down the filters. The tricky thing is getting the filters out. They be water-logged and heavy and have giant bags of rocks on top. :P I figure I can fuel the generator. Actually running it? Well, we've got to have the manual around here somewhere...! And the swing ought to be just putting tab A in slot B. :) It just can't be a one-person job.
