stress week
Oct. 5th, 2006 07:56 pmthe problem with stress is that I'm too blitzed to post anything and then by the time I can see straight, there is too much to tell!
Car stuff: got Prius serviced, got Protege (now Rose's car) smogged, got Prius bumper repaired -- which is a story in itself in balancing guilt, perfectionism, and learning a less expensive way to figure out where the ends of my car are. A local friend lent me her creaky old Dodge Caravan, complete with German Shepherd Dog stickers. I get the Pruis-with-ressurected-bumper back tomorrow.
Animal stuff: Oka (German Shepherd Dog) got very sick; current working diagnosis is pleuritis/granuloma from the same migrating foxtail that almost killed him a couple of years ago. He is doing very well on two mongo antibiotics, and we are hoping that if it is a piece of the foxtail, enough scar tissue will form around it to wall it off. Sick puppy no fun. Macassar, our senior )19 yrs) marmalade tom, is hyperthyroid, and it's a fine line between suppressing it too much (kidneys fail) or too little (cardiomyopathy). We've decided not to do heroic intervention (subcutaneous fluids) if he goes into kidney failure. Tinkering with Rx dose now; he's scrawny but happy, gets lots of pets and treats and a cozy faux-sheepskin bed to curl up in.
Work stuff: For a year now, I've been saying that if I couldn't find a way to not be trashed by my day job, I would have to stop. I work 1 day a week as medical assistant, and also "float," filling in for other front office staff. Some days are better than others, but I have been finding that I lose 2 days -- one from work, one to put myself back together again. Our lead m.a. is leaving, so today I marched into the office manager's office and said that when she hired someone new, she should give them my one day. I'll stay on as backup, but I can't keep working this hard. This week, the records clerk is out sick, and I've not only been going in every day except Wed, I ended up doing 2 jobs on my regular day. Dave, bless him, said it was about time, or something to that effect.
Writing: has been on hold this week. Have one scene to add and one chapter to reshape and then can set aside the first volume of THE SEVEN-PETALED SHIELD and launch into #2, THE PROPHET OF MEKLAVAR.
