Whew, it's been heating up in the middle of the day! Our weather station says it was 100 degrees F at 4 pm, 98 now. Fortunately, it'll cool off to 60s tonight. Like a maniac, I chose today to try the full walk-to-town, with one of my neighbors and Oka. Knee did just fine, but at 3 pm, even the shade was over-like. Cool shower, lots of homemade iced tea, and not wearing much have all helped. It's just as well Dave is at work in an air conditioned building. He gets miserable in the heat. I'm uncomfortable but functional -- years of summers in El Monte working out at kung fu (in a tiny room with no a/c and no air circulation and lots of sweating bodies) have given me a certain tolerance. As long as I'm hydrated, I can keep going. I may need to slow down, especially if I'm not acclimated, but being sticky and salty is part of the game. Magic drink is orange juice, half and half with water and a tiny tiny pinch of salt. Better by far than Gatorade, which is disgusting in my book.
