Great quote today from barbara_hambly:

Writing is a lot of work, and a lot of that work is totally invisible. I've griped before about non-writers not understanding that when I'm practicing Japanese or taking a walk or playing Tomb Raider, that feeds back into writing.

So when I'm daydreaming or playing Scrabble on Facebook or walking the dog.... I'm working!

I write for fun and not with the goal of being published (I discovered long ago that I just don't have the...um, fortitude, I guess...for it), but I find that I do most of my writing while I'm driving and doing the dishes so I'm not surprised that professional writers do a lot of their writing when they aren't actually writing.

I think writing offers us joy in many different ways, and perfecting the craft for publication is not for everyone. How wonderful that you have found your own place and pleasure in it!

I was pleased to realize that several writers, including two that my mother reads regularly (barbara_hambly being one), play World of Warcraft. I use this as clear proof that it doesn't rot your brain or waste your time.
