The most recent example, which has me scratching my head, although not a little displeased, is finding out that my story, "Mother Africa," (in Asimov's June 1997) got "Honorable Mention" in the YEAR'S BEST SCIENCE FICTION 16th edition.

The story was one of those wrench-your-heart-out-while-you-write-it, and this lovely bit of trivia above comes at a time when I'm slogging through a novel draft that leaves me wondering if I shouldn't take up canary raising or something I might be good at. "Mother Africa" is in the queue to go up on Fictionwise, and is available through AnthologyBuilder (under "Deborah J. Ross, writing as Deborah Wheeler") http://www.anthologybuilder.com/authordetails.php?byline=Deborah%20J.%20Ross,%20writing%20as%20Deborah%20Wheeler

Which does remind me that once a few more stories are available, I plan to write an introduction to the best of them, so you can buy a collection-with-author's-blatherings. I'll post news and linkies here. Be patient.
