Back home...
Mar. 27th, 2009 11:48 amand needing to stay here for a while, I think.
This round of care went well. The surgery was longer than expected, but the prognosis is excellent. I got to stay with my friend during the pre-op stuff. Was very impressed with the anesthesiologist and the care he took in minimizing post-op nausea. Also with the surgeon, an Asian-American woman with that soft/steel some women physicians have, but very clear and compassionate.
The next 48 hours went as expected, but well. Lots of need for pain meds the first day, then tapering off. I got a lot of knitting done, including my first pair of socks, using hemp/wool yarn that was a gift from
flyingamazon. However, my own sleep was poor, between a hard and unfamiliar futon/bed, middle-of-the-night medication calls, general being wound-up. Oh, and leg twitchies, which have gotten significantly worse over the last few years.
Came home yesterday, after dropping off 3 boxes of kosher for Passover matzah with a friend in Palo Alto who volunteers at a food bank where there are many Jewish clients (we have a local food bank here, but no one would know what to do with them), had dinner, unpacked, got back in the car again to drive another 45 minutes to Hebrew class. On the way home, grabbed a load of fresh veggies to restock the fridge. Our asparagus seems to be seriously impaired this year. A bunch of new ones, way too thin to eat, but not much else. Maybe the gophers, who have left them alone previously, got hungry.
Now pretty blitzed, but shortly will walk into town for a talk with my primary doc on the subject of de-restless-izing my legs at night. I really really need to sleep.
