Tim's work is weird in the best sense. For a long time THE ANUBIS GATE was my favorite, but DECLARE just knocked my socks off. When I lived in France, I splurged on 2 English-language books -- ON STRANGER TIDES and Sherry Tepper's THE AWAKENERS, an omnibus of NORTHSHORE and SOUTHSHORE. I read them both so many times, I experienced a seriously creepy bleed-through from one to the other. Both have that we're-not-in-Kansas-anymore unfolding-nasty-juju feeling.
