OMG Breaking News...

I've just been accepted to attend Launch Pad 2011, a week-long astronomy workshop for science fiction writers. It's funded by NASA and will be held this July in Laramie Wyoming. The guest instructor is Stanley Schmidt, editor of Analog. Other lecturers include University of Wyoming professors Michael S. Brotherton PhD and Jim Verley, PhD.

I am so incredibly stoked!

Awesomeness! And, of course, when the time comes, TRIP REPORT!

Congratulations!

Oh yes, TRIP REPORT is definitely a must! I don't know how much connectivity I'll have, although Laramie and the University probably have more high tech than Boulder Creek, but you will indeed hear from me!

Giggle on the video.

I thought it was a lovely present!

Trip Report for sure. I'll try to remember to bring my camera, although it's been way too long since taking pictures has been part of my consciousness. And I'm sure many wonderful facts and insights will appear in my writing for years to come!

Happy smile here!

Thank you. I certainly intend to!

I guess I wrote a dynamite essay on why I wanted to attend--a great beginning!

I love your "Squee!" icon. It's exactly how I feel!

[identity profile] deborahjross.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I know a couple of the past attenders (from the website list) but have never talked with them about it. I can hardly wait to see who else is attending.

Happy dance! Happy dance!

You will LOVE it. You will end up with your brain leaking out of your ears, but you will love that experience. I was fortunate to have been selected back in 2008 and I still remember it with awe and pleasure and utter humility.

You will LOVE IT.

"Brain leaking out of ears" is not necessarily a bad thing, especially when coupled with "awe and pleasure and utter humility." Intense growing experiences, yay! And years of nifty ideas to weave into stories, super-yay!

Thanks so much for the link! I've had a wonderful anticipatory time reading your journal notes. I see what you mean about brain leaking of ears!

I don't know that anyone can ever be =completely= prepared for such an intense and intensive experience, but it does remind me of my first semester of college, which was way way harder than high school.

How have you used what you learned?
