Audacious longing, burning songs, daring thoughts, an impulse overwhelming the heart, usurping the mind -- these are all a drive towards serving Him who rings our hearts like a bell. It is as if He were waiting to enter our empty, perishing lives.

Conventional culture tends to think of Judaism as stereotyped images of Orthodox practices, but modern Jewish theology is vibrant and incredibly diverse.

Heschel is incredible and so dense I can read him only in small portions. The poetry of his language is amazing when I consider that English was not his first language (IIRC, it was his 4th or 5th).

My cousin Aliya is friends with his daughter, Susanna.
