After a slow start, the winter rains have finally gotten underway. If I'm reading the gauge right, we got about 8" this weekend, almost 5" in the last 24 hours. The down side is that poor Oka (German Shepherd Dog) has been cooped up, with only occasional bouts with the laser pointer "bug" to interrupt the boredom. There will be Cleanup once we get a break in the rains. But the air smells wonderful, the sound is so soothing, and Saturday night, Dave made a fire in the fireplace and it was way mongo cozy.
Friday was fancy dinner for my office. Actually billed as educational, and co-hosted by the Medtronics (pacemaker) rep, so the one medical assistant who is a Jehovah's Witness and would not come if it were in any way a holiday celebration felt comfortable enough. Not a speck of holly or drop of eggnog to be seen. Mike, the rep, did his spiel, including some fascinating info on the new biventricular devices for congestive heart failure. We have several patients with these, who had exhausted every medical treatment short of transplant, and are now leading relatively functional lives. Truly amazing stuff. But the restaurant, oh my. it's been a while since I was that saturated with incredible tastes. The place definitely goes on our list of places to splurge for special occasions.
Not much writing done, racing to pack and mail presents -- Sarah won't be joining us, so I will send not only gifties but ornaments her way, which means going out to the garage and sorting through and packing... and then getting to the Post Awful today. Ah well. I can =think= while I sort and pack, can't I?
