I've long noticed that many of those screaming most loudly about "the sanctity of life" in cases of abortion are also pro-death penalty and anti-gun control. They also aren't willing to spend money on sex education (or even permit it to be taught, other than abstinence), prenatal care, or child care.
However, there are some who are consistent in their beliefs, and feel deeply about the subject. I have to be careful not to automatically assume that everyone who is troubled by abortion is a nutcase. If I am willing to listen "behind" the initial rhetoric, then sometimes we can have a meaningful and respectful dialog.
