Amidst the devastation comes hope for little girls
Some of you know that one of my "causes" is knitting for "afghans for Afghans," the enterprise of one woman in partnership with the Quaker organization, American Friends Service Committee.
Here is an article about their work. The narrative is a bit wandering, but do look at the smiles on the faces of the children.
I'm currently finishing a girl's sweater in beautiful shades-of-rose wool/mohair from Peace Fleece, which benefits wool growers in Maine, Russia, Roumania, and Palestine/Israel.

... I am just now editing a document on AIDS in South Africa. How is it that I can have heard about something for most of my life, and then, suddenly, it hits me with so much force and reality. All the sick mothers (all the sick adults, really), the orphaned children... so dreadful. ... And I came online, thinking, maybe I'll post something about this, but then I saw your entry, and it made me think, despite all these huge ills in the world, we keep trying, and every little bit helps.
Thank you...
